A Gentlemans Guide To Razors.

Through out the years, shaving has evolved. There are far more options as to how to go about trimming the fuzz, no longer does a gentleman go to the barber to have a life threatening cut throat razor shave to look like the sharpest man around.
In this day and age, there are many different methods for men to shave and each have their pros and cons.
_

This guide will go through the four most well known shave styles/razors(if there are more as I expect there are i'm not fully aware of them) and why some are better than others.
_

Electric Razor.

The first electric razor was made in 1928 but have recently become a far more popular choice due to their flexibility.
_

Pros.

- A electric razor is probably the fastest way to shave, you click it on and all the hair is gone.

- There is little/no mess. There is always a guard to catch most of the hair shaved off.

- Newer models often have hair trimmers on which can be useful.

- Virtually impossible to cut yourself with.
_

Cons.

- The shave is the worst out of all razor type(not very close).

- It isn't very elegant.

- It can irritate your skin and sometimes cause ingrowing hairs.
_

Cartridge Razor.

Cartridge razors are better than electric due to them being actual razor blades. But they still lack the skill and style of more traditional methods.
_

Pros.

- Closer than a electric razor.

- Fairly difficult to cut yourself.

- Less likely to cause irritation than more traditional methods.

- The blades are set to the angle the company puts them to so very few skills are needed to shave.
_

Cons.

- You have to buy replacement cartridges which is VERY expensive.

- Companies boast that the razor will cut hairs below the skin. THIS IS TERRIBLE. It will cause in growing hairs because the hairs will curl under the skin instead of coming out.

- The shave is not as close as traditional methods due to the angle or the blades and 'Guards' the companies put in so people can't cut themselves.

- Slower to use than an electric because you have to wet shave.
_

Safety Razor.

These are the mid section of razors. Unchanged by modern companies but are still sophisticated enough they won't kill you like a Straight Razor will.
_

Pros.

- They look great because they are classic and you have to have a bit of knowledge to use one.

- Much closer than the previous two razors mentioned.

- Replacement razor Blades are very cheap.

- Will last forever and no new model will come out to replace it.

- Once you've learnt how to use it, Straight Razors are much easier to move on to.

- Along with Straight Razors, it is one of the classics. A true way for a gentleman to shave.
_

Cons.

- Because the razor isn't set to an angle you will have to learn how to get the angle right to shave.

- Due to the single blade and the angle being your choice, it is easier to get razor burn.

- Much less likely to get ingrowing hairs.

- Slower to use than both the last razors due to having to pay more attention.
_

Cut Throat/Straight Razors.

This is the daddy or razors. The original. The king.
In my personal opinion a true man should use this or at a push a Safety Razor.
_

Pros.

- Beautiful tool. World recognised for shaving.

- Supreme shave. The closest you can get.

- Will last you a life time.

- Unbelievably sexy. To everyone.

- Learn a new skill by using this.

- Enjoy your shaves more by the time and skill this razor requires.

- Did I mention is looks amazing?

- The original razor. Become Sweeney Todd.

- Gives you a classic feel as you shave.
_

Cons.

- This is a dangerous tool. There are no safety nets.

- The longest way to shave due to difficulty/patience.

- A good one worth buying is expensive. But you don't have to get another after.

- You have to learn how to use it and take your time while you shave.

- If you rush and don't reapply you soap/cream, you will get a irritating shaving rash.
_

I hope this guide helps you to decide which razor you want to use. Again everyone chooses razors for different reasons, I.E time, closeness. Try them all and see which you prefer.
